Neck Pain Treatment in Kew, Melbourne

Neck pain can make everything harder, from turning your head to check a blind spot to getting through a day at your desk. Sometimes it comes with headaches, shoulder pain or tingling down the arm. We see a lot of neck pain at our Kew clinic, especially in people who spend long hours at a screen, and most of it responds well to the right mix of treatment and simple changes. We look after people from Kew, Hawthorn and Camberwell.

Types of Neck Pain We See

  • Stiff neck: Waking up with a crick or struggling to turn your head.

  • Desk related neck pain: Aching that builds through the workday.

  • Neck and shoulder tension: Tightness across the top of the shoulders and shoulder blades.

  • Neck pain with headaches: Headaches that start at the base of the skull. See our [headaches page](/headaches-migraines).

  • Neck pain with arm symptoms: Pain, pins and needles or numbness travelling into the arm or hand.

  • Whiplash: Neck pain after a car accident or sudden jolt.

What Causes Neck Pain?

Neck pain is usually a mix of how much load your neck is under and how well it's set up to handle it. Common contributors include:

  • Long periods in one position: Hours at a laptop or on your phone without moving.

  • Stress and tension: Stress often shows up in the neck and shoulders, and can make pain more sensitive.

  • Poor sleep: Both how much you sleep and the position you sleep in.

  • Low strength: Weakness in the deep neck and upper back muscles.

  • Sudden strain: A quick movement, a heavy lift or a knock in sport.

It's rarely about having the perfect posture. Your neck likes variety. Changing position often matters more than finding the one right way to sit.

How Osteopathy Helps with Neck Pain

We look at how your neck, upper back, shoulders and jaw are moving together, as well as what your days look like, so the plan fits you.

Hands-On Treatment

Soft tissue work, gentle joint mobilisation, stretching and, if suitable and you're comfortable with it, manipulation. We'll always explain what we're doing and check your history first.

Exercise

A few targeted exercises to build strength and endurance in the neck and upper back, so it copes better with long days.

Desk and Lifestyle Advice

Practical tweaks to your workstation, screen time, sleep and stress, so you're not just feeling better in the treatment room.

Jye Adamson, Osteopath

"A lot of the neck pain I see comes down to long days, stress and not enough movement in between. Small changes there make a big difference."

What to expect at your appointment

Your first appointment is 45 minutes. We'll ask about your symptoms, work, sleep and general health, then check how your neck and upper body move, plus nerve tests if you have arm symptoms. You'll get a clear explanation, treatment on the day if it's right for you, and a plan to keep things moving.

Take the Load off Your Neck

Book a neck pain assessment at our Kew clinic. No referral needed, and HICAPS is on site.
